Modern Blocks (99 quilt blocks from your favorite designers)

Yay! I got my Modern Blocks book early. :)
This book is fabulous and I am really excited about getting started on some of the blocks inside.

Here are a few of my favorites. One of these will be made tomorrow.

My book now has teeth marks in it.

You can see a preview of ALL the blocks by going here.

I am hoping I'll be online more now that the weather is cooler. I apologize for not getting back to blog comments and being late on sending swaps. It's been hard getting back into my routine after summer for some reason.
Anyway starting tomorrow I'll try and catch up. I'm off cut out some templates out now. :)

The Party Dress Book

The Party Dress book by Mary Adams is a really wonderful read.
There are beautiful photos and instructions and pattern on how to create your own party dress.
Here are a few of the photos inside that I love...

I am not a big party kind of person (anymore) so won't really have an occasion to wear one of these too. Still, I think they are neat and different and plan on making at least one sometime soon.

Sharing Stitches {Book Review}

I thought I would share a few pages from the book Sharing Stitches today. It was sent to me yesterday and I absolutely love it! There are loads of great projects inside (Danita's my favorite of course :)) and I can't wait to start on something.

I love the patchwork book cover a lot so I am thinking that may be the first one I attempt.
as soon as I get some free time that is......

Twinkle Sews

Dec18 005
As some of you know I am embarking on a new adventure into sewing clothes. I have been wanting this book for about a year now because there are some cute tops I wanted to wear out of it. I've put off getting it though since I can't even sew a simple skirt. Last month however, I finally broke down and purchased it and can't wait to get started.
I figured I would start off with a skirt since everyone I've talked to said skirts are the best thing to start with when sewing clothes.
This is the one:

Even though I hate the thought of wasting my time I plan on making it out of muslin first since I don't really know about the sizing and such. Then *fingers crossed* if it turns out okay I can move to my special fabric I bought for it. If anyone has been thinking of purchasing this book it has some really cute patterns in it. Here are a couple I really like.

More photos here.
I think my only problem with the book is that the patterns are a pain! They are on a CD and I spent all day yesterday printing out the pages, taping, and cutting just two of them. Some of the patterns are over 40 pages too (those I skipped and will go to Kinko's to save my ink). Has anyone purchased any online downloadable clothing patterns? I am guessing those might be the same way and I really love Jennifer's tunic.and other patterns.

As long as the skirt comes out wearable though I think the time and effort for these patterns will be worth it. Since we are under a winter storm warning I'll probably be out of work tomorrow and can hopefully finish this skirt up and move on to a top for next weekend!
Be back soon with hopefully something good

Material Obsession 2

Sept13 051

I had pre-ordered Material Obsession 2 and wasn't planning on it arriving until October.
Luckily for me they released it early and it arrived this past Tuesday.
It's a really wonderful quilt book filled with fabulous quilt patterns and beautiful eye candy.

It was hard to choose but I think I picked the quilt I want to try first. I don't usually use quilt patterns because I am impatient and don't have a lot of sewing time but I am determined to try one before the end of the year. Maybe I'll realize quilt patterns are not as bad as I think.

Here is the one I am going to make.

It's called Coming Up Roses and has a 2/4 stars for difficulty level.

I was planning on working on it next week/weekend but unfortunately the fabric I was going to get is out of stock EVERYWHERE.

:(

I guess I'll wait a week or so and if it's not back in stock I'll have to find a new fabric line to use. My heart was really set on the High Society prints though.
